Live!

From the Jazz and Rock Nite at the local college union. Each band got about 30mins on stage, and the competition went on for several hours. This is one of the lead singers from a band called Donkeybox. They do heavy metal - with old hits like Enter the Sandman, and also some of their own compositions. As you can see from the shutterspeed, I was really pushing the limits of the camera on this one (and no, I don't consider ISO 1600 on the Canon 10D to be usable). Quite often I get people telling me how good their little compact digicams are, and that there's no need for a DSLR, I wasted my money, blah blah blah. Would love to see the shots these plaintiffs get at one of these events. ;)

Duane, I know the feeling, shots like his are always hard, nice brave atempt anyway! maybe a 30mm f1.4 would help?

Dude I feel on this shot. I have tried to get decent concert type shots but to no avail. I hate using flash to preserve the ambience of the location. Its hard shot to do, so kudos. U and Remi are ahead on doing concert stuff. Comparing a DSLR and compact digital? Ha Ha laughable, there is no comparison.

simply red...
Not sure if a 30mm f/1.4 would be ideal - I need the extra reach of the 50mm for stage work. But ISO 3200 would be very nice, yes siirrr.. who ever thought we'd be able to get that in the film days.
I find that these shots look really cool in black and white. Cool stuff.

Yup Funmi got it...simply red!
