photoblog image Eiffel Tower

Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower in Paris. I was there for holiday in October last year. This shot was taken at dusk. I was hoping to capture the lighting of the tower against a dark blue sky. However, without a tripod the results weren't great. In the end, I opted to conver the shot into black and white instead. On the subject of travelling, I definately prefer taking the Eurostar than flying. With the Eurostar it's really convenient for those living in London to go there for a weekend break. Given the choice (and same price), would you prefer to fly or take train?

I personally prefer Eurostar as you get to see a bit of the countryside on your way in. Also it's less hassle in getting into Paris.

Lovely shot by the way.

Duane,

Like the shot. When I look at images, I want my mind to start whirring. I want the images to talk to me. Make me think (also make me jealous it’s not my snap smile ). I love this shot as monochrome, captures the essence of the tower. It is a magnificent edifice built by man. You have captured its beauty and presence, the fact it was taken without a tripod (counts for the ISO I guess)… cool.

Would it have had the same effect if it was left in colour? Doubt it, but I have a soft spot in my heart for monochrome (B&W) shots.

Excellent picture.

great composition, like the grain too
Hi, Duane. Great capture of an overly captured place. smile The symmetry here is excellent and enhances a subject that itself is based on meticulous work. The BW here is used effectively and the high ISO makes this feel like an older shot. It’s a very solid capture.
