photoblog image Hanabi (ハナビ)

Hanabi (ハナビ)

Hanabi (ハナビ) is a Japanese word that either means a sea of flowers or a burst of fireworks. Those who are into Japanese culture would probably also know it's a film by Takeshi.

The blooming of sakuras is one of the great events to watch out for if you want to visit Japan. Though you must be there at the right time. Come to early, and there's no sakuras to see. Come too late, and the green leaves would have sprouted, ruining the colours.

This is one of the first pictures I took when I got my Canon 70-200 f/4L. It's was at the ruins of an ancient castle in Kyushu. It's part of a turbulent history in which many castles were pulled down to cement the Emperor's power.

Ps. notice we can now do fancy stuff to the text.

Nice shot
Nice shot, more crop needed I think
For some reason today I'm being very critical. I think it's about time.

I would have done this shot in B&W, you focused on a small part of the image and the rest our of focus, these out of focus bits distract from your focus. If you did this in black and white the stuff behind the focused bit could be dodged out and the focused bit burnt....you catch my drift?

This is really lovely duane. makes me want to sleep
Needs a bit more crop but has potential. I like the colour as it suggests Spring isn't far off. I always think B/W flowers and funerals...but that may just be me.

Don't like the fancy writing as it distracts from the pictures...I left deviantart because it was too fancy, emoticons, adverts etc.. I wouldn't want to see my image and then tons of psychedelic text underneath. But hey it's just an opinion.
I like this a lot, Duane. It's reminiscent of asian-style nature photography. When you're dealing with white subjects, it's hard to get them correctly exposed. You did well here. Nice capture.
